September 2015—Taking as its theme the 20th anniversary of providing certification services to industry, the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) once again hosted the Lift Safety Zone at the International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE), held this year on September 29 – October 1 in Louisville, KY.
In keeping with ICUEE’s nickname “The Demo Expo,” the Lift Safety Zone (LSZ)—located at N-2009 near the West Wing of the exhibit hall—featured hands-on demonstrations of NCCCO’s internationally accredited (ANSI/ISO) and OSHA-recognized personnel certification exams. Qualified attendees had an opportunity to try their hands on the service truck crane’s controls to test their skills on an actual CCO practical exam course.
In addition to the practical test course for service truck cranes, the LSZ also featured demos of the CCO Rigger Level I and Rigger Level II practical exams.
CCO written and recertification exam administrations for those seeking to become CCO-certified or renew their certifications in most NCCCO programs were also available.
Presented by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), ICUEE hosted over 850 exhibitors and more than 16,000 attendees. ICUEE targets utilities providing electric, telecommunications/cable, natural gas, water, and wastewater services as well as the contractors who provide utilities with infrastructure engineering and construction services.
NCCCO has exhibited continuously at ICUEE since 2007 to educate utility contractors and municipalities on the safety and cost benefits of lifting personnel certification. Information regarding CCO operator certifications for digger derricks, articulating cranes, and boom trucks—equipment used frequently in the utility industry—was also featured in the Lift Safety Zone.
