Pennsylvania Signs Up For Licensing

January 2009 – As we enter a new year that will most likely see the finalizing of a federal rule requiring crane operators to be certified, 16 states now have their own requirements.  Several more will introduce legislation this year.  The latest to join their ranks is Pennsylvania which, after four years of debate, passed a law that will require crane operators to be certified by a nationally accredited certifying entity, such as NCCCO, by 2010.  Accreditation and/or compliance with the appropriate sections of the ASME B30 American national standard (see states in red) has been a feature of most legislation since 1995, the year NCCCO began offering its nationwide certification program.
